Student Council

The Student Council is a body made up of elected student officers. Student Council listens to student's converns and/or ideas and tries to incorporate them into positive changes. Some achievements and responsibilities of the Student Council include:

  • Organizes School Spirit Days activities.
  • Runs the "Triple C" (Cumberland Cleanup Club).
  • Provides reports to the PTA at its monthly meetings.
  • Lead student efforts in Box Top collections and Food Drive.

The Student Council includes the following members:

  • President - 5th grader
    • Presides over student council meetings
    • Must know basic parliamentary procedure
    • Main contact between staff and students
    • Assists other officers
    • Serves on all committees
  • Vice President - 4th grader
    • Must take over for president if need arises
    • Plans all theme days (with assistance of student council)
  • Secretary - 5th grader
    • Keeps accurate records of all student council meetings
    • Handles all correspondence
    • Keeps attendance records
    • Notifies members of meetings
    • Handles any publicity required by student council
  • Treasurer - 4th grader
    • Coordinates annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive
    • Coordinates Box Tops for Education
    • Keeps accurate written records of all contributions and arranges appropriate rewards for classes when winning any contests
    • Makes regular reports to student council about preparations and progress of these events


Elections into the Student Council are usually held during early October of the school year. To qualify as a candidate, a student must:

  • Meet or exceed expectations academically
  • Have good citizenship
  • Achieve regular attendance
  • Has positive leadership ability
  • Is a good communicator
  • Has good school spirit
