Cafeteria
  • Q: Does Cumberland have a Cafeteria?
  • A: Yes. Both breakfast and lunch are served in the Multi-Purpose room. Cost is $1.75 for breakfast and $3.00 for lunch. Please see "Schedule" for meal schedules.
  • Q: How can I pay for meals?
  • A: Your child can bring cash and pay for his/her meal. Alternatively, you can purchase a meal card (it's like an ATM card) under your child's name, which is kept in the Cafeteria and is debited each time your child purchases a meal. You must put money in your child's meal account ahead of time. The meal card will retain its value across school years. The drop-off box for the meal card money is in the school office. You may pay by cash or check. Please make checks payable to Sunnyvale School District.
  • Q: How do I know what's being served each day?
  • A: A copy of the menu will come home at the beginning of each month. Alternatively, you may check on-line
Snacks

  • Q: My child is used to having snacks mid-day. Is there a timeslot for that?
  • A: Yes, children may bring snacks and enjoy them during recess time. To see the recess schedule, please see "Schedule" section.
  • Q: Is there any regulation on what I can bring?
  • A: We recommend that you follow the Healthy Snack Guideline. We also ask parents to adhere to this guideline when bringing in snacks for classroom parties. Please also be sensitive to any children in the classroom who may have special allergies.

After School Care
  • Q: Is there any after school care available at Cumberland?
  • A: Yes.  Cumberland partners with CDC (Child Development Center) to provide on-site after school care. You must contact CDC directly, to make enroll in their program.
  • Q: Any other programs on-site?
  • A: Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Center offers science and exploratory sessions that usually meet on Tuesday afternoons on our campus. In addition, Starting Arts also offers Chorus sessions on Mondays and Dram sessions on Thursdays. Please watch for community fliers that comes home with your child.

Back to School Night 
  • Q: What happens in the Back to School Night?
  • A:  It is an evening event where the parents will learn from your child's teacher about his/her class, such as schedule, curriculum, class structure, etc. Many staff also take this opportunity to seek volunteers for the classroom.
  • Q: What is the format?
  • A: Usually the evening is broken into three sections:
    6:00-6:25 meetings in the classrooms, with the teacher, for grade levels 1,2,3
    6:25-7:00 aggregated meeting in the multi for all parents
    7:00-7:30 meetings in the classrooms, with the teacher, for grade levels K,4,5
Actual time and grade level allocation will be announced soon after school starts.

Special Education

  • Q: My child need special accomodations at school. What can I do?
  • A: Special Education programs are availableto all eligible disabled students, age 0-22, in Santa Clara County. If you have reason to believe your child needs special education, please contact the Sunnyvale School District:

Halloween Parade

  • Q: Does Cumberland have a Halloween Parade?
  • A: Yes It's a Cumberland tradition to have a Halloween Parade on the October 31.  Our purpose on Halloween is to help children share their costumes and enjoy the spirit of this time of year.
  • Q: Any restrictions on the costume?
  • A: Costume choices must not display violence or evoke fear in young children. Decorations or hand carried items should e safe and not resemble any type of weapon or symbol of violence.
  • Q: Should my child come to school dressed that day?
  • A: No. Please bring your costume to school. Right after recess, all children, staff, and fun-loving parents will change into costume and get ready for the parade.


Picture Days

  • Q: What are Picture Days?
  • A: Cumberland usually has 2 picture days. One in the Fall and one in Spring.


Student of the Month Assembly

  • Q: When is the Student of the month assembly?
  • A: For grade 2-5, it will be held on the last Friday of the month. For grade k-1, it will happen on the second Friday.
