Every school in the Sunnyvale School District has a School Site Council (SSC) who provide a Leadership role in the school community regarding curriculum, school performance goals, and disbursement of School Improvement (SIP), Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), and other funding received from Sunnyvale School District.
As an example, in 2005, the Cumberland SSC approved the purchased of computers in the 4th and 5th grade classrooms with SIP funds, and with the GATE money funded Math Olympiad (an extra-curricular Math Program), Math Score, and teacher training in differentiated instruction.
SSC consists of 5 parent and 5 Cumberland staff members who meet monthly at Cumberland, and represent Cumberland at the District School Site Council meetings four times per year. Site Council member serve a two-year term, and are elected per the By-Laws at the end of each school year.
Please contact Ruth Jones in the office for more information on the Cumberland School Site Council.
SSC meetings are open to all parents of Cumberland. They are usually held in the conference room in the library. If you have a topic that you'd like to bring to a meeting, feel free to email the SSC Co-Chairs Lisa Fourkas (fourkas4 at att dot net) and/or Martin Bom (bom at apple dot com) in advance.
