Parent Association Information and Volunteer Opportunities

The Parent Association coordinates most of the volunteer activities of the school, provides "extras" for the students (e.g. assemblies, fieldtrips, classroom supplies, teacher grants,) and works in cooperation with the staff to assure that  students are given every opportunity to learn and feel successful.  Show your child how important their education is by participating in activities at San Miguel.  When children see their parents involved at their school they are more likely to succeed.

Parent Association Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. Notice of these meetings and other special events is published in this handbook and may also be published in school bulletins and/or the Great White, San Miguel's school newsletter.

Parent Association Dues: $25 per family. 

The Parent Association Board determines how the dues are spent based on the needs of the school.  In the past these funds have been used to provide teacher/classroom grants, and Emergency/Disaster Preparedness Kits.

Adopt a Student

With uniforms written into state law each child is required to comply with the school uniform policy.

The Adopt-a-student is designed to provide school uniforms for children whose families are unable to afford them. This program gives all children who participate complete anonymity, except to the principal.

If you wish to adopt a student inquire at the school office.  You either shop for the uniform yourself or simply donate funds.

Adopt-a Student is a terrific program you could introduce at your workplace, in the neighborhood or at a club.  For many people whose children have already gone through the school system this is a great opportunity for them to remain involved in a very pertinent way.  A person could also join with a friend or group to sponsor a student.

This is a great way to put your money to work, and a terrific hands-on experience.  Help make the difference for a student this year.

Uniform Exchange Program

The San Miguel Clothes Closet is designed to provide the opportunity to purchase or exchange the San Miguel uniform at an affordable price.  Outgrown uniforms may be exchanged or traded for similar uniforms of a different size or style.  Exchanges are not tax deductible.  Used or exchanged uniforms may be purchased at the Clothes Closet.  Money collected from the Clothes Closet sales will primarily be used to purchase uniforms for the Adopt-a-Student program.

Committees

Committees are designed to fulfill the different needs that exist in our school.  The parent Association Board is open to all of your ideas, interest, and talents.  Please make yourself known to us.  Serving on a committee is the best way to serve your school.

Support Your School

The following events raise money for Parent Association funded activities.  Your support and participation enriches your child's education.  Volunteer, it makes a big a difference.

Walk-a-thon Fund-Raiser:

San Miguel's biggest fundraiser of the year is the Walk-a-thon.  The day begins with children walking as many laps as they can around the track earning money from their sponsors.  Pledges by sponsors are made on a lap or flat donation basis.  Family and friends are sure to enjoy this fun and festive day.

Support Shopping

Shop online and support San Miguel effortlessly!  There's no added cost to San Miguel or to you-Purchase the same items at no extra cost from merchants such as Amazon, J. Crew, and eToys!  A percentage of each purchase will automatically go to San Miguel.  It's so easy!  Visit select www.schoolpop.com, select San Miguel, and go shopping!

E-scrip

San Miguel Elementary participates in the national E-scrip program. E-scrip is the Parent Association's easiest form of fundraising. Parents fill out an E-scrip form, return it to the child's teacher, and a percentage of what they spend at stores--Safeway, Pak-n-Save, Chevron, Coco's, and more--goes directly to the school. There is no cost for this program. We encourage all families to sign up for E-scrip.
