"Learning and Beyond"

Cumberland Elementary School has served the Community of Sunnyvale for 44 years. One tradition that the school has proudly maintained is producing achieving students who have gone on to be successful, contributing adults.

The staff and parents of Cumberland work together to prepare leaders for the future. Our students are bright, inquisitive and creative, and certainly gifted in a multitude of ways. Our staff considers it a privilege to be able to affect and influence our students' lives in such a pivotal role. Parents are supportive and committed to working with the school and are generous with their time, expertise and resources. Continuous improvement is one of our school's core values, and the goal is to work with our parent community to keep us focused on excellence.

Home/School Communications:

  • Addressing Concerns:It is Cumberland and the district's strong belief that effective schools work with parents for the benefits of the children. Concerns regarding your child's progress or concerns regarding his/her class are best discussed with the teacher. Any unresolved issues about your child or concerns regarding the school in general should be directed to the principal.
  • Back to School Night: During September, Cumberland hosts a Back to School Night, run by the individual teachers in the classrooms. The parents can get an in-depth understanding of their child's classroom such as daily routine, curriculum, etc. (Parents only please)
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences: One conference period is scheduled in November when the first report card is issued. Please look for sign up sheets from your teacher when the time is close. You are also welcome to request a conference with your child's teacher whenever you feel necessary.
  • Agenda Books: Students in grades 3 to 5 use an agenda book, received in the first week of school. The agenda books provide an additional channel for communication between the teachers and parents.
  • Open House: In May, Cumberland hosts an Open House and invite families and friends to see the students outstanding work for the year, in each of the classroom. This is also a wonderful opportunity to visit your child's up-coming grade's classrooms.
